A large group of British opinion leaders, mainly architects, will visit the granite sector in O Porriño on 22-23 June, within the framework of an inverse trade mission with Great Britain.

The Granite Cluster, through the Spanish Chamber of Commerce in Great Britain, has gathered professionals from the architecture and construction sector to present to them the potential of the Galician granite sector. 

The programme of the Mission includes a technical workshop where recommendations for stone construction and prevention of pathologies will be given. Furthermore, the role of granite in contemporary architecture, the versatility of this material and its aesthetic and construction potential will be analysed.

During the Mission several urban works and actions in Vigo, representative of the use and application of granite, will be visited: the Maritime Museum, the MUSEUM OF CONTEMPORARY ART (MARCO) and the historic quarter. 

This initiative presents a strategic opportunity for generating, developing and reinforcing the cooperation and business relations between Galicia and the United Kingdom. 

The United Kingdom, a financial centre par excellence, is the second most important economy in the European Union, after Germany, and the fifth economy in the world. 

According to ICEX data, imports of granite from Galicia in 2014 were EUR 1,389,860 thousands, while imports of granite from Spain were EUR 5,552,850 thousands. 

The Mission, organised by the Granite Cluster, has been organised under a subsidy from IGAPE for the performance of actions and strategies of promotion and internationalisation of Galician companies, co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund, in the 2007-2013 Feder Galicia operational programme. 

This action, jointly with the visits to the fairs in Coverings, Dubai and Nürnberg, forms part of the internationalisation Plan of the Granite Cluster for this year, which has relied on the subsidy of IGAPE.
